Interrupting in HM
Just curious. Is it viable at all to use an interrupting build in HM? I'm just a little tired of playing VoR all the time and wanting to do something different on my Mesmer (for HM).

Not really, you can use it for e-mangement, but it's not going to hurt HM mobs, at all. They have insanely fast cast, their skills recharge in half the time, their energy pool is huge and every mob caries multiple copies of the same skill. You best option is Cry of Frustration, cause of the damage and AoE interrupt.
EDIT: Yes, I ment CoF.

I think some skills are worth interrupting, but I wouldn't base an entire build on it.
Personally, I think death is the best interrupt.

CoP is AoE damage but single target interrupt.
CoF is AoE damage and interrupt.
I run AP + Shame and Guilt in HM.
While not technically interrupts, they make the spell fail and that gives me and my team (in most situations) enough time to score a kill.
I also bring CoF on that bar for the times when I am feeling lucky. AP removes it's recharge so even if I miss it should be up an ready in a few secs again.

AP + Shame and Guilt is something I haven't heard of, and I'm really excited about trying it out. Although, I think I might throw Mistrust in rather than Guilt or maybe use both. I suppose I will have to abandon basing an entire build around interrupting for use in HM though.

The reason why I went with Guilt/Shame over Mistrust is the energy gain. That way you can easily go with FC, Deadly Arts and Domination and always have tons of energy. Otherwise you might need to look into Inspiration also - making you waste points and skillslots.

If you have AP, you can use Auspicious Incantation without any worries and even at 0 inspiration it is still decent energy. I don't think there will be any significant energy issues but I'll see how things turn out tomorrow.

The thing is that IMO a BHA ranger will do interrupting much better in HM. Mesmer direct interrupts are unreliable. I didnt yet try Guilt n Shame, but Mistrust worked fine even though I prefer some other options.
As for Tease on a hero, I prefer AP. I tested a lot both, and while hero wont use AP as reliably as a player, it was still good. Tease didnt work on my hero. I know this sounds weird, but ive seen some anomalies. APing CoF and other spells turned out much better.

As for you being bored of VoR which i never use myself, you still can try:
* AVAS spammer - gimmick but fun.. gets boring fast and is not mesmer style. I used: AIncantation, AE, EVAS, AP, YMLD, Finish Him, Unnatural Sig, Ether Sig.
* Fevered Dreams - I like it so far because of unique style. I use someones build thats like this: Glyph of Energy, FD, Fragility, YMLD, Ash Blast, Finish Him, Ruby Djinn, Rez.
* Spirit spam if u dont have a ritualist. Spirit spam is so overpowered that not being primary rt makes only theoretical difference in almost all cases.
* Lyssas Aura with antimelee illusion spells such as Clumsiness, IoP etc. Good for change of pace, but honestly didnt seem powerful enough to me.
* IW mesmer with pve skills while drunk. But if PuGing, i wouldnt recommend pinging the bar
ps: go to wiki n nag anet employees to buff mesmer in pve

EVAS - I used this for quite a while but I did get bored of it quite fast too and then I moved to VoR afterwards. I can't believe I didn't think about Unnatural Sig or Ether Sig. Very nice.
Fevered Dreams - Never tried so I'm interested to see how this turns out.
Spirit spam - I've been doing this on my ranger actually haha. Def op.
Illusion - I think I would want to try Mantra of Recovery with Wandering Eye and Clumsiness for some aoe damage but I was never big on Illusion Magic so I'll leave that for later.
IW - haha I wouldn't dare try to bring IW in a pug because most people will realise straight away.

Correction KD is the best interupt,YMLAD is a good bet. You could also go Me/N and spam discord/necrosis with a bit of fast casting on the side of having a few energy interrupts. Infact you could use a hell of alot of PvE skills that can act as interrupts eg technobabble (perfect with an MM).

I've ran AP + Illusion magic for a while, but it got boring.
then I've threw this together
Sunspear Rebirth Signet (Optional)
Tease
Cry of Frustration
Power Spike
Power Drain
Leech Signet
Backfire
Empathy
worked as a shine @ Gate of Pain HM Masters
this build however requires a good ping, plenty of interrupting experience, and some luck (predicting)
cast Backfire on an enemy monk or caster, then interrupt the mob. if you only fight 1 foe such as the tortureweb dryders @ gate of pain, then interrupt him as well despite Backfire. the damage you save your party from has a higher value than the 130 damage backfire will do.
empathy on any melee which you decide gets to live a little bit longer than the rest of the mob, so empathy triggers more damage (meaning, you still kill him, but not first, it's pretty useless to use empathy after which you throw on 6x Discord)
I think I ran 12+1+1 domination
8 Inspiration
rest in Fast Casting
no +runes for inspiration or FC, as I use just +health armor and additional runes on the mask to stop me from wasting a + health rune slot when I decide to swap headpieces.
you cannot interrupt mesmers in HM, though Tease and Cry of Frustration have a pretty good chance of interrupting them by luck.
I use tab for nearest foe. (empathy)
after which I click to select the enemy casters. especially meteor shower is dangerious for the AoE KD's, so @ gate of pain I aimed for meteor shower and when I interrupted it, I moved on to the next terrorweb dryder.
@ Xsiriss
despite KD being a very good interrupt (no casting Time for YMLaD!) I wouldn't recommend it as many foes cannot be knocked down.
I really noticed how important a good interrupter can be ingame, when I was doing 'All alone in the darkness' I fought a group of casters all with Ice Spikes / Deep Freeze and a pretty high water magic. well appearantly they chain it :P
both my Discord Heroes dropped their protective Was Kaolai, cast it again and dropped it again to negete the AoE dmg. this could be prevented by a Tease -> Cry of Frustration combo.
basically you're acting as a prot monk since you're protecting your party from harm. though only interrupt key spell, as interrupting a single Fireball won't be as effective as interrupting a meteor shower/deep freeze.
hope this helps
